FIBER & Beyond for Heart Health
FIBER & Beyond Cookies™ for Heart Health are a delicious way to help lower cholesterol for those with mild to moderate high cholesterol. Created by registered dieticians Wendy Miller, MS, RD and Norman Null, RD, FIBER & Beyond Cookies™ for Heart Health have been shown in clinical studies to significantly decrease total cholesterol and LDL ("bad") cholesterol. FIBER & Beyond Cookies™ are real chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies with added benefits. These cookies can also be part of a cholesterol-lowering treatment regimen that includes prescription medication, diet and exercise.
A study presented on the cholesterol-lowering effects of this specially formulated chocolate chip cookie won first place at the 3rd Annual Scripp's Integrative Medicine Conference of Natural Supplements in La Jolla, CA. Jay Udani, MD, Medical Director of Medicus Research, was the lead author of the study.
"With cardiovascular deaths high and cholesterol on the rise, this cholesterol-lowering cookie appears to be a novel and effective adjunct to other lifestyle and pharmacologic therapies for people looking to take important steps in their overall cardiovascular health," said Dr. Udani. "FIBER & Beyond Cookies for Heart Health™, with soluble fiber and plant sterols, helped study participants significantly lower their total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and fasting glucose levels without any weight gain."
Active ingredients in the cookie line, soluble fiber and plant sterols, have shown in clinical studies to be effective in lowering cholesterol. People who consume 7 grams of soluble fiber from psyllium and 2-3 grams of plant sterols daily can help reduce cholesterol by 17 percent.
Two FIBER & Beyond Cookies™ contain 10 grams of dietary fiber, including 8 grams of soluble fiber (as much as 3 cups of cooked oatmeal), and 2.6 grams of plant sterols (as much as 3 cups of sunflower seeds).
We recommend 2 cookies per day to find out if you can lower your cholesterol through diet. There is no simpler way to take in the 8 grams of soluble fiber (the only kind of fiber that lowers cholesterol) and the 2.6 grams of plant sterols that are optimal for lowering cholesterol naturally.
Typical decreases of 10-15% in LDL and total cholesterol are shown in 4 weeks. Those who keep them as a part of their routine for longer often see still more change. Though there are other ways to get these amounts of soluble fiber and plant sterols, it's difficult. One example to get 8 grams of soluble fiber would be to eat 1 1/2 cups cooked oatmeal, 1 cup of beans, and 6 servings of fruits such as apples, pears, and oranges!
